Domestic Violence and Residential Tenancy Changes

Domestic Violence and Residential Tenancy Changes

On 11/12/2020 new laws started allowing a tenant to be able to end their lease without penalty if they or their dependent child is in a domestic violence situation and need to leave their rental property immediately.

From this date a broader range of health professionals are able to complete the declaration needed to give to a landlord or agent, where previously only a medical practitioner could provide this.

The hope is that people living in a DV situation will be able to seek help from a broader range of professionals.
